International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia
The federal public service has long been a hostile environment for gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, queer and bispiritual people (LGBTQ2).
In 2017, the Prime Minister and all party leaders officially apologized for the discrimination and persecution perpetrated by the government against people suspected of homosexuality. The government has only just announced that it will invest 15 million dollars for education and reconciliation in this matter.
In the fall of 2017, the Inclusion and Diversity Working Group concluded that "promoting and supporting respect, mutual trust, equitable treatment, non-discrimination and diverse ideas is essential to achieving a healthy and productive workplace." In its report, the Working Group recommends that training on the topics of diversity, inclusion, equal employment opportunities, and subconscious biases should be mandatory and integrated in all provided training classes.
The JLP is proud to participate in promoting a diverse and discrimination-free public service through its workshop on Respecting Differences/Anti-Discrimination. Visit the ‘Workshops’ tab on our website to learn more about the fundamental topics covered by the JLP in order to improve work relations.
